Meet Our Staff
Rebecca Slaton started Surfaces in 2000. Her vision is to offer quality decorative arts education in the tradition of trade schools with a full catalogue of wall, ceiling, cabinet, furniture and canvas finishes. She brings her unique training in curriculum writing, non-profit management, and program development to her class offerings. Rebecca also shares her experience in the commission world where she supervised a crew and worked on large scale private and commercial projects.
Rebecca’s work has been featured in many show homes, Kansas City Spaces, Artisphere, Decorate with Paint Magazine, Faux Effects World Magazine, Studios Magazine, Gary Lord’s book “Simply Creative Faux Finishes” and the AP article “Born Again Cabinets” featured in newspaper nation-wide.
She is a nationally recognized instructor who teaches at studios around the country and at the International Decorative Artists League national convention. Rebecca is the author of the blog Finishing Acts where she shares her insights on projects, products and the business of decorative arts in an often humorous and always honest manner.
Emily Copley is the Surfaces’ studio manager. She is a graduate in Print Making from the Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida which gives her experience in color, design, and studio classes. She offers on-site tech support and handles all shipping. Emily participates in all Surfaces’ classes and is knowledgeable in the products and techniques used in our curriculum.
